Hyderabad, Feb 13 : Expressing displeasure at the repeated incidents of sexual abuse of students at the Veda Patashala run, shockingly, by the Devasthanams at Tirupati, the AP High Court on Monday directed the TTD to deposit `5 lakh as compensation to one of the victims of sodomy. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar was dealing with a plea relating to the sexual abuse on a student of the Patashala by his seniors three years ago.

On January 30, the bench directed the TTD to submit its proposals regarding providing relief to the boy. The bench had appointed P. Naveen Rao to argue the case on behalf of the boy. When the matter came up for hearing on Monday, the Chief Justice, referring to yet another incident of sexual assault on a boy a few months ago in the Patashala, demanded to know whether this is the way a school is run.

Mr Y.V. Prasad, counsel for the TTD, replied that the victim had left the school along with his parents. In the case being heard, he directed the TTD to deposit the Rs 5 lakh to the Registry by Friday and also find out the address of the second victim. Mr Naveen Rao, counsel for the first victim, brought to the notice of the court that the boy was treated as an out-patient in a private clinic in the city.

The bench directed the Legal Service Authority to visit the boy and take him for medical examination. Ms V. Padmavathi, chairperson, child welfare committee, Ranga Reddy, had written a letter to the CJ stating that the boy joined the Veda Patashala in 2008, when he was 11 years old and was abused by seniors. The TTD paid Rs 4 lakh compensation to him. She submitted that after the incident, the boy became mentally unsound and he undergoing treatment.

The case was posted for next Tuesday. Elsewhere, the bench issued notice to the TTD on a plea seeking directions to the TTD to do away with VIP break darshans.
