Status quo on economic city by Ras-al-Khaimah

By S A Ishaqui
Hyderabad,March 3: The AP High Court on Tuesday put a brake on the proposed Hyderabad Economic City project at Madharam village in Medak district. It is a joint venture project of the state government and the government of Ras-al-Khaimah in UAE.
The government proposed to develop the project on 2,000 acres and the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation was appointed as a nodal agency to implement the project. The government entered into an agreement with RAK Investment Authority of UAE to execute the project.
The government also alienated 576 acres of land to the APIIC in January and February and the APIIC took possession of the land.

Captain Lingala Panduranga Reddy, a resident of Hyderabad, filed a writ petition challenging the project, stating that the government has not floated global tenders for such a huge project. He contended that the allotment was against the AP (Telangana Area) Land Revenue Act 1317 Fasali.
Dealing with the petition, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Anil R. Dave and Justice Ramesh Ranganathan asked the APIIC to maintain status quo till further orders.
